With over 30 years as a group that's home to 100 avid radio control flight fanatics, the Davenport Radio Control Society has long been a group devoted to their passions.

The group builds, maintains, and flies model versions of real planes that are much bigger, beefier, and more expensive than the AirHog plane you played with as a kid for 10 minutes. However, as of lately, they haven't had a home.

While they've had some temporary solutions, no location has been able to act as a steady home for this group.

"About 3 years ago we lost our flying site, and we have been looking without success for a new site since. There is a lot of farmland around here that could possibly provide a suitable site but getting our needs out to the community has been challenging. We have asked other area sod farms, parks and have exhausted about every avenue we can think of to find a new site."

The group has some requirements that make for a specific need for some land, but they're willing to do what it takes to find the best space for their love.

"We would need about 5 acres that faces north or east. The desired direction is necessary to avoid looking into the sun while flying. These 5 acres would be groomed into the runway, pits and parking area for out flight operations," a member of the group told us. "We would also require an adjacent over fly area where the planes would actually fly. Trees, power lines or other obstacles in this area are deal-breakers. It is also good to be well away from any residences, because not everyone likes the sounds generated by our model engines and just one unhappy resident can put a real damper on things."

The group said they are more than willing to rent or lease the area if they can come to an agreement with the owner to also utilize the overfly area.
