With temps in the 50's and 60's it doesn't feel much like winter yet, but Bettendorf will celebrate the season next weekend. Winterfest will be held at Bettendorf's Family Museum on Sunday, December 3, from noon - 5:00 p.m.

There will be plenty of wintry and fun activities for all ages. Guests can make a variety of holiday crafts and enjoy a dance performance from the Family Museum Dance Company.

A donation for the food pantry is all you need for admission. Family Museum members will also be asked to make a donation for admission for the day.

Here's a list of activities that include plenty of wintry fun activities for those of all ages:

  • Make a sparkling ornament
  • Watch Ice Follies experiments
  • Make a glowing snowman in ThinkShop
  • Make a kindness catcher
  • Get a free photo taken with Santa
  • Watch the Family Museum Dance Company perform songs from Polar Express at 1:30 and 3:30
  • Participate in a Snowball Fight Dance Party at 1:45
  • Enjoy music by area schools: Pleasant Valley High School Band-12:30, Bettendorf High School Choir-2:00, Rock Island High School Orchestra-4:00.

A 300 square foot train set will be running and each passenger on the mini Polar Express can enjoy hot chocolate while all the lights burn bright and the smokestacks puff as the train winds its way on a journey to the North Pole.

The centerpiece window dressing is the last set of animated figurines from the Petersen Harned von Maur store in Davenport. It's Santa's house including a living room with a decorated tree, fireplace, kitchen with a busy stove, a workshop with elves making toys and a snowball battle in the woods among the elves who are gathering firewood. The display was built in 1966 and donated to the museum in 1990 when the downtown store was sold. This should make for a fun family event!
