Quad City Blues Take On Cedar Rapids At TaxSlayer Center This Weekend
If you love hockey, or just love supporting kids in what they love to do, there's an upcoming event at the TaxSlayer that should catch your eye.
Here in the Quad Cities, there's a high school hockey team by the name of the Quad City Blues. The team travels around the Midwest, playing against other regional teams in the Midwest High School Hockey League.
For the last 10 years, a cup game has taken place between the Quad City Blues and the Cedar Rapids Roughriders, where the two teams battled for the Genesis Cup.
This will be the 11th year that the two teams have played this cup game, each year choosing an area of Genesis Health System's many foundations to benefit from the fundraiser being held.
For the game this year, the theme of the game is Hockey With Heart, in memory of a former Blues Sports Network announcer who passed away in June of 2020. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Genesis Heart Institute.
The team's head coach, Dillon Fournier also spends the weekends playing with the Quad City Storm. This morning, they stopped by and talked with Dwyer & Michaels:
On February 19th, the Junior Varsity teams will take the ice at 11am, and the Varsity at 1pm. This event is free to attend, but goodwill donations, auctions, a 50/50 raffle and a bake sale will all be available to help raise money for the Heart Institute.
