Create Smiles: Toys For Tots Iowa In Need Of Special Needs Toys
The Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program is a 76-year-old nonprofit that provides toys to children throughout the United States. Last year, 6,602 children were supported with 29,692 toys in Scott, Rock Island, Muscatine, Mercer, Henry, and Clinton counties.
There are plenty of places to donate, but Toys for Tots specifically asks for certain types of toys this year.
And as you can see below, the deadline to become a Toys for Tots family is also fast approaching.
How You Can Make Donations to Toys for Tots
Toys for Tots accepts donations of new, unwrapped toys, books, games, and bikes. They also accept monetary donations of cash or checks made out to Toys for Tots.
This year more than ever, Toys for Tots is in need of special needs/sensory toys. They are hoping the community can come through and help fulfill the needs of even more children this year.
There are several events where Toys for Tots will accept donations including:
- Stuff the Truck at Theisen’s in Davenport, Friday, Nov 24th, 7am-4pm
- Quad City Christmas Arts & Crafts Fair at the QC Expo Center, Friday & Saturday 10am-5pm
- Sunday 10am-4pm
- There are also over 400 locations hosting toy donation boxes. You can find the full list and sort to find the one closest to you right here. These boxes will be available until December 6th.
Register To Be A Toys For Tots Family
The last day to register online to receive toys is this Friday, November 24th.
After submitting an online application you will need to verify in person with your ID and your children's birth certificate. In-person Verification takes place Fridays & Saturdays from 9am-6pm. The last day for in-person verification is December 2nd.
The Toys for Tots office location is 1 Montgomery Drive in Moline, Illinois. The toy distribution dates are:
- December 8th from 9am-7pm
- December 9th from 8am- 4pm
- December 16th from 8am-4pm
- December 17th from 9am-7pm
