An Open Letter To Jeff Luhnow And The Houston Astros Front Office
Hey Guys!
Congrats on currently holding the best record in baseball! That is quite an accomplishment you have been doing without 6 time American League All Star, 5 time AL Silver Slugger Award Winner, 3 time AL Batting Champion and 2017 World Series Champion, José Altuve!
Speaking of José, that is why we are writing you. We were super bummed out when he went on the 10 day MLB Injured List on May 12th. We have been reading up on his progress and noticed he was going to be starting a minor league rehab assignment at the end of this week.
Just to remind you, the Quad City River Bandits have been a Class A affiliate of your franchise since 2013 (the second longest tenured Houston Astros minor league affiliates Class A or above) and play home at Modern Woodman Park, the 2013 winner of "Best Minor League Ballpark and many other awards.
But enough about the River Bandits and their great home. Let's get to the other reasons why you should send José Altuve to the Quad Cites for his rehab assignment before joining you for the rest of the season.
THE QUAD CITIES NEEDS AN ATTRACTION BESIDES THE FLOOD OF THE MISSISSIPPI: Don't know if you have been paying attention but Mississippi River flooded the streets of Davenport on May 1st. The HESCO barrier broke and water filled into downtown Davenport businesses and disrupted local commerce.
Most importantly, because of many, many days of flooding, the River Bandits have only been allowed to play in 3 home games in 2019!!!
José Altuve will bring thousands of people to the ball park and many will visit downtown businesses before and after the games.
THE RIVER BANDITS HAVE A 7 DAY STRAIGHT HOME STAND STARTING MAY 25: There would be very little travel needed for José while he was on his rehab assignment here in the Quad Cities. We checked it out for you. Your other minor league affiliates are either on the road to start the weekend or face an impending travel schedule that could effect the progress of properly healing Mr. Altuve's left hamstring.
- Round Rock Express travel to Nashville and Des Moines
- Corpus Christi Hooks may have a few games at home this weekend but has a travel day on Monday and then has an away series at Midland
- Fayetteville Woodpeckers are in Lynchburg and won't be home until May 29th
RIVER BANDITS GM JACQUELINE HOLM IS A HOUSTON NATIVE: Jaqueline, formerly of Houston suburb Sugar Land, TX, is a HUGE Astros, Rockets and Texans fan. Do you think she would let anything happen to José Altuve while his stay during his rehab assignment was under her watch? No way!
THE PROMOS FOR THE WEEKEND OUR TREMENDOUS AND THE BOOSTED ATTENDANCE WOULD HELP RAISE MONEY FOR QC VETERANS OUTREACH CENTER: After the May 24th A TRIBUTE TO VETERANS NIGHT/JERSEY AUCTION Home game vs Wisconsin, the River Bandits will auction off game worn jerseys with all monies raised going to the center. Think how much a Quad City José Altuve River Bandit jersey will raise!!!
Think about it, Mr. Luhnow, Houston Astros and friends! The timing of all of this could not be more perfect!
Send José Altuve to the Quad Cities! We will take great care of him and send him back to you better than ever as you continue to work to regain the MLB Commissioner's Trophy!
Talk To You Soon!
