I understand that sports has a value when it comes to learning certain life skills, but I shake my head at the amounts of money some school in the U.S. spend on football stadiums and other sports facilities.

I've always thought it clever that Davenport Schools share a stadium just up the road from the Rock-n-Roll Mansion here on Brady Street.

Last night, Davenport Schools Board voted to spend just under $2.5 million to renovate the facility. According to a report in the Quad City Times, the money will be spent on upgrades that include "the turf on the football field, to enlarge the track, and, among other renovations, to make the stadium resemble the new ticket booth on the south side of the facility."

No word on when the renos will take place, but kudos for Davenport Schools continuing to invest in a shared facility.
