Iowa VS Miami (OH): The Good, The Bad and The Boring

Nearly 400 miles were driven on Saturday as ESPN 1170 AM's show, "Don't Hassle Us We're Local", traveled to watch BOTH the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones football teams home openers on Saturday. Here is the University of Iowa Hawkeyes "The Good, The Bad and The Boring" from Saturday:

THE GOOD

The Hawkeyes 38-14 victory over the RedHawks moved Coach Ferentz's record in season-opening games to 18-3. The Hawkeyes have won six straight season openers and are 18-1 since 2001. Iowa also moves to 1-0-0 Against The Spread in 2019.
QB Nate Stanley threw 3 touchdowns, 15th career multi touchdown game, to raise his career total to 55. Stanley is currently 1 touchdown pass behind Ricky Stanzi for third all-time in program history.
Stanley also moved past C.J. Beathard for eighth all-time in school history. Stanley was 21-30-252, 3 TD 0 INT and moved his career yard total to 5,603.
Ten different Hawkeyes had at least one reception. Including career firsts from TE Sean Beyer, WR Oliver Martin (1st TD too as a Hawkeye), and RB Tyler Goodson.
LG Landan Paulsen and RG Levi Paulsen became the first set of twin brothers to start for the Hawkeyes since SS Kent Ellis and CB Kevin Ellis in 1980.

THE BAD

Tackle Aleric Jackson was injured on the second possession in the 1st Quarter with an apparent knee injury. He left the field on crutches and did not return to action. Coach Ferentz had little updates to give regarding injury during post game media conference, "Nothing right now. Probably will know more next time we get together on Tuesday. Fingers crossed." He went to elaborate about Aleric's spirits:

He was good. He was in the locker room, he was fine. We don't know right now what the extent of it. No sense mourning right now or worrying about it. Keep our fingers crossed.

Iowa fullback Brady Ross fumbled the ball at the Miami (OH) 32 in the 3rd Quarter to set up the RedHawks 2nd touchdown of the day- a Gabbert to Homer strike for 6.

THE BORING

Pre-season All American Defensive End A.J. Epenesa was double teamed all day and did not register a sack. Coach Ferentz credited the Miami (OH) coaches, "Wasn't double-teamed all the time, but they were chipping a lot, tight end over there and all that kind of stuff which is good football; they've got a good staff over there, good plans."

The Iowa Hawkeyes will host and open up B1G Conference play against Rutgers next Saturday at 11:00 am at Kinnick Stadium.
