These Six Illinois Stores Could Close Soon After The Holidays
It is the holiday shopping season, but some locations you are shopping at this year might not be around next year.
With more Illinois residents shopping online, brick-and-mortar stores are less necessary. With staffing becoming more of an issue, it's also easier for these same stores to just have online stores.
If you like shopping in person, you might look for new locations for these stores.
Macy's
The above picture is from 2019. When was the last time you saw this many cars at your local Macy's? Several low-performing locations will be closing in 2025.
Like many stores, MSN says, "The decision comes as the retailer shifts its focus toward e-commerce and smaller-format stores in high-traffic areas."
JCPenny
But look they got David Beckham to show up at JCPenny. How did that not save the company?
The once popular anchor store for malls across America is fading fast. Malls aren't what they used to be and JCPenny isn't what it used to be. They also plan to focus on "key stores" and their online shopping.
Sears
There has been a theme so far. Another mall anchor store, Sears was known as the place where you could pick up a sweater for Grandma and a part for your snow blower.
There are already few remaining stores and with the company's massive financial woes, more stores are likely to close soon.
Foot Locker
So many of the mall anchor stores are closing. What about the mall stores? Yeah, they are struggling, too.
"Foot Locker plans to close hundreds of stores globally in 2025 as it repositions itself toward higher-growth markets and digital sales."
Victoria's Secret
They still put on one heck of a fashion show. But another mall store that is going to be closing locations will be Victoria's Secret.
According to MSN, Victoria's Secret has faced criticism for failing to adapt to modern consumer expectations and is looking to rebuild its brand and connect with a broader audience.
Family Dollar
It's not the first place you think of when it comes to holiday shopping. But for those shopping on a budget, there will be fewer dollar gift locations in 2025.
The company plans to close a whopping 370 stores next year

If you like to online shop, then this is good news for you. All these stores should be focusing more on their online experience. If you are a see it, touch it, buy it person...your drive to one of these and more might be a bit farther for the next holiday season.
