Illinois Has Officially Changed The Legal Age For Buying Tobacco
Turning 21 is a huge milestone in life. At that point you've been able to legally gamble for three years, and now you can drink too! Now in Illinois, you can add one other thing to the list; once you hit 21, you can legally buy tobacco products.
Governor J.B. Pritzker officially changed the legal age – it was previously 18 – on Sunday, April 7, according to WREX. The law won't take effect until July 1 of this year, but it includes the sale of both tobacco and vaping products, including cigarettes, chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes and vapes.
According to the report, Illinois is the 11th state to jump onboard with the law. Iowa has not adopted the "Tobacco 21" campaign at this point, and no plans have been announced to do so as of yet.
What do you think? Should the legal age be higher for tobacco products? Should it be lower? Let us know your thoughts.
